Coaching Is Not Magic, It’s Commitment.

Many people come to coaching with the expectation that everything will change in one or two sessions, that the coach will provide a magic formula to solve their problems immediately.

But the reality is different.

Recently, during an online session, I had a client who came feeling overwhelmed by multiple issues: frustration at work, personal conflicts, lack of motivation… they wanted to work on “everything” at once. I explained from the beginning that:

  • I am not a psychologist, a mentor, or a consultant.

  • Ontological coaching is a process that moves forward step by step.

  • Deep change happens when we can focus our energy on one priority topic, work on it, and then move on to the next one.

However, this person was not able or willing to prioritize. They abruptly disconnected from the session and did not resume the process. This made me reflect on the following:

Why do we often want to “solve everything” instead of focusing?

Because facing our own issues makes us uncomfortable. Transformation requires responsibility, commitment, patience, and also courage. Not everyone is ready for that level of commitment, and that’s okay.

So, what is coaching?

It is a space for deep conversation where the coach helps the client to:

  • Clarify what is most important to work on.

  • Discover their own answers and resources.

  • Take responsibility for their change process.

  • Move forward with concrete and measurable steps.

Coaching is not a place to pile up problems or to receive quick fixes. It is a path that requires dedication, focus, and openness.

Conclusion

If you are looking for sustainable and meaningful change, coaching is for you. If you are looking for quick solutions or "magic," you may need to reassess your expectations.

True courage lies in recognizing what you really want to improve first and committing to that step, knowing it’s just the beginning of a transformative process.
